Portugal Day | Retracing Our Own Steps
Culture

You are warmly invited to celebrate Portugal Day at Mikołajska 2. This will be a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of José Saramago, explore the exhibition dedicated to the Nobel laureate, and watch the film about his life, José and Pilar. Director Miguel Gonçalves Mendes accompanied the writer and his wife, Pilar del Río, in Lanzarote, Lisbon, and during their travels around the world. We hope to inspire the people of Krakow with love for Europe’s westernmost country and to strengthen the affection of Camões’ homeland admirers.
As the exhibition organizers write, Saramago’s work lives mainly through the multilingual reading of countless readers worldwide and various adaptations. In Poland, several of his rich literary works are well known, including Baltasar and Blimunda, Blindness, The Cave, The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis, and The History of the Siege of Lisbon. Portugal Day at KFK is a great chance to also discover the culture in which the writer grew up and his private life.
