From 27 to 30 October 2025, Kino Pod Baranami in Kraków will host MARÉ – Film Festival of Portuguese-Speaking Countries, an event celebrating the diversity and cultural richness of the Lusophone world through cinema.

The central theme of this year’s edition is memory — in its many forms: personal, collective, historical, and emotional. Over four days, audiences will have the chance to discover six films from different Portuguese-speaking countries, including Portugal, Brazil, Angola, and Cape Verde, exploring the power of memories and inner journeys in shaping identity and connecting generations.

The festival will open with the documentary “Between the Islands” by Amai Sumpsi, portraying a time when life in the Azores revolved around maritime transport. The film will be screened together with the short “Pirinha” by Natasha Craveiro — a nostalgic homage to childhood and Cape Verdean traditions.

Among the highlights of the programme are “Traces of the Wind” by Tiago Guedes — a story set in rural Portugal, where time seems to stand still — and “Pictures of Ghosts”, the latest work by acclaimed Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho (Bacurau, Aquarius), presented at the Cannes Film Festival.

The line-up also includes “Malu” by Pedra Freire, premiered at Sundance, and “Our Lady of the Chinese Shop”, the directorial debut of Angolan filmmaker Ery Claver, which delves into the tensions of a post-colonial Luanda.

MARÉ is a unique opportunity to experience contemporary Lusophone cinema — rarely shown on Polish screens — and to celebrate the language and culture that unite millions of people around the world.
