Where to Find Shelter in Poland: Discover the “Gdzie się ukryć” Platform

Knowing where to seek protection in an emergency is useful information to have in advance. The free “Gdzie się ukryć” platform allows users to view a map of temporary shelter points across Poland and identify the nearest locations.
Fundacja Portugalia is sharing this tool with the Portuguese community in Poland as a useful resource for individual and family emergency preparedness. The name can be translated as “Where to shelter?” and reflects its main purpose: helping people find a temporary place of protection when an emergency situation arises.
A tool for emergency preparedness
Emergency preparedness is not limited to conflict-related scenarios. Severe weather events, such as storms, hail or strong winds, may also create situations in which people need to find protection quickly.
The platform is designed to provide information and help users become familiar in advance with the resources available nearby. Rather than looking for this information only during an emergency, it is advisable to check the map beforehand and become familiar with the locations marked in the areas where you spend most of your time.
Checking the points near your home, workplace or other places regularly visited by your family can form part of basic emergency preparedness.
What locations are shown on the map?
The map identifies existing spaces that may provide temporary shelter, including underground passages, tunnels, metro stations and underground car parks.
It is not a network of newly built shelters created specifically for this purpose, but rather information about existing infrastructure that may offer protection in certain circumstances.
It is important, however, to understand what this means: a point shown on the map does not necessarily represent a bunker or a high-protection shelter. The fact that a location appears on the map does not mean that it can provide protection against every type of threat.
How to use the platform
The platform can be accessed directly through a web browser on a mobile phone or computer.
By allowing access to your location, you can view nearby shelter points. When selecting a location, you can see information about the site and check how to get there.
The platform also allows users to save data in advance so that basic information can still be accessed without an internet connection, which may be useful if network access becomes unavailable during an emergency.

In a real emergency, the platform should support and never replace instructions issued by the authorities and emergency services.
